Dialing Tips for the 8077 Combination Padlock

Proper operation of the 8077 padlock requires the operator to carefully dial the combination, making sure the numbers are aligned correctly on the opening index mark.

  • Before attempting to operate the lock, study the illustrations and familiarize yourself with the names of the various parts of the padlock.
  • When counting turns of the dial, you count the numbers of times your particular number aligns with the opening index.
  • Proper operation of the 8077 padlock requires the operator to carefully dial the combination, making sure the numbers are aligned correctly on the opening index mark.
  • View the dial from directly in front. Viewing from either side while dialing the combination will automatically introduce alignment errors.
  • Dial the combination precisely. Errors of even a fraction of a number will cause the lock not to open.
  • If you dial past a number when you meant to stop on it, you must begin the dialing process again, beginning with the fi rst step. You cannot back up to a number once you have dialed past it.
  • Remember that the last step after dialing the three-number combination is to turn the dial right (clockwise) to zero, then pull sharply on the shackle.

To Lock: After closing the shackle, the dial must be turned at least five complete revolutions in either direction to ensure it is fully locked.
